Scottish Open Water Triathlon Champs at Knockburn

Sunday 20 Jun 2010 saw Aberdeen based professional ironman Scott Neyedli win the 2010 Scottish Open Water Standard Triathlon Championship at Knockburn Loch, Strachan.

 Over 100 Triathletes from as far afield as Shetland and the Borders came to sample the North East’s premier open water triathlon event. Scott, from Aberdeen took the title for the third time breaking the course record in doing so in 2hrs 2mins for a 1500m swim, 42km cycle & 10km run. He was delighted to do so at his home race, hosted by his home club, Fleet Feet Triathletes.

Craig Dale and Greame Stewart were second and third.

 

 

 

Kelly Van Der Toorn was the fastest female, with only eleven men in front of her.

Jennifer Ellertsen, last years winner was second, but managed to improve her winning time from last year by two minutes.

Another fantastic result on the day was local junior triathlete Lewis Murchie taking the Junior Scottish Title. Lewis, from Westhill, another Fleet Feet club member gave a great account of himself and shows a great deal of promise for things to come.
 
The event was a great success and really showcased the rising profile of a strong triathlon scene in the North East.
